4:30 - 5:30 pm

Online workshop

(3 PDPs) In this three-part workshop, we'll look at key issues around talking animals in children's literature. Participants will consider the debate that talking animals confuse children (making them harder to distinguish between what's real and what's fantastic), address the ways in which talking animals slip into problematic stereotypes and racism, and discuss humanized animals and the compliations of the human-animal relationships in environmental justice. Reading materials will be sent electronically in advance of each meeting. Space is limited.

Note: This is a 3-day online session, taking place November 16, November 23 and November 30 from 4:30 - 5:30 pm EST.
